Cross-Eyed Owl Brewing Co., known as XEO, bills itself as Decatur’s oldest brewery. It brews in small batches in the center of Decatur, focusing on traditional German, British and Belgian styles while also making American IPAs and experimental beers. The tap list has included River City Lager, a hefeweizen, a Märzen and a smoked Märzen, a maibock, the Space Owl IPA, the Light Beam session IPA and the Ichabod export stout. Mug club members get access to Alte Strasse Bier, an unfiltered kellerbier made only for them, along with cask offerings. XEO also roasts its own single-origin and blended coffees, sold by the pound or half pound and served hot or cold in the taproom, and it makes non-alcoholic sodas with cane sugar, honey and molasses. The Owl Cafe serves house-made sandwiches, and the community-minded taproom hosts local gatherings and events.
